Pimp Your Mom Blog?

Cheesy, right?  I had Pimp Your Headlines as a title but that sounded too nasty, too close to head lice (big fear). Although I just started this blog this year, I already have a love/hate relationship with my stats.  I check them daily (okay, more like twice a day but at least not hourly, like I have a problem or anything) and I do like it when more people read my blog.  Go figure.

Check out this great post over at CoffeeShopBloggers  from friend and fellow blogger (http://www.pragmaticmom.com) about 10 solid tips to writing great headlines for blog posts, mommy blog or otherwise.   There are some good links to other great sites about  how to get more traffic to your site.   Disclosure – I write at Coffee Shop Bloggers, too.

Not sure I did everything I was supposed to in the article but let me know what you think.

Mommy Blogger: Love it or hate it?

NY Times

There are quite a few strong opinions about the term Mommy blogger.  I don’t particularly mind it but I do get why people take offense at this label.  Are there Daddy bloggers?  Yes, but if a man blogs about, oh, I don’t know, social media, is a he a daddy blogger or just if he writes about parenting is that his handle?  Google “Mommy Blogger” and you get 3,470,000 results.  There are clubs, discussion boards, great information and writing, like this from PhD in Parenting,  Typology of the Mommy Blogger gives a great breakdown of types of Mommy Bloggers and links to them as well.

Yesterday I found great responses to the New York Times article on Mommy Bloggers. I list just a few here but there are so many more – please excuse inconsistency in showing links/articles.  I am a newbie and it shows but my enthusiasm for the writing should make up for it – yes?

Social Media is so cool or Capability Mom geeks out

Okay, if you know what social media is, great. If, like me, you had heard about it but really had no idea what it entailed – here is the scoop.

I decided to start a blog. I figured out a name and where to sign up (first Blogger then WordPress.com – more about that later). I started writing  (posting). I had no visitors and was only lower on the search results than, well, actually, I was the lowest on the search results.  Since using social media (I sound like a toothpaste ad), I have moved up the search results on Google considerably. Disclaimer: you have to type Capability Mom or Capabilty:Mom and I am second and third on the list. Let’s be clear, I am not doing anything other than twitter and a Facebook Fan Page.

I am thrilled with this mini-success.  I am the daughter of an electrical engineer and think math is one of the circles of hell.  I do, however, like to put things together. I like to rewire lamps and have recently started messing with  Facebook’s static FBML (their mark up language so you can customize your Fan Page).  What is a Fan Page? It is a page for a business or organization. While I haven’t figured out HTML yet (it may take me a bit more time), I have googled some sites that give tutorials.  Here is a link to Facebook FBML http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=4949752878  to explain what it is and here is a FBML tutorial  that shows you how to do it. Why do you want to? Because it is cool and let’s you put whatever you want in your Fan Page.

Geek out.
