12 Days of Shopping with Pragmatic Mom

Dogs and Cats, but only dogs here because I don’t know anything about cats on Day 10 of our 12 Days of Shopping.

True. I have baby-sat (pet-sat? cat-sat? sounds just all sorts of wrong) cat or two in my time but never owned one so I can only imagine what a good cat gift would be, check Pragmatic Mom for that.

So I scoured the web and some local places, too, and here are some of my favorites!

From Varsity Pets (I found this through Fab.com). It’s supposed to exercise your dog for you – (and dogs love it ) and I’m all for that!

The because I am lucky enough to know awesome bloggers, I was reading Oysters and Pearls (written by someone I need to go shopping with) and Leah is sharing on her gift guide some sweet sweaters and lovely leashes. I am not about to put my 50 plus pound dog in a sweater (she is mocked enough when she wears her fleece) but love them both. Here is her guide–  she is also the consummate foodie, and if she goes out to eat one more time without me, I may weep. I may!

Newton has Laudromutt(sister to BYOD in Cambridge) and I like to stop in there for the lastest in treats for our dog. They have a pretty counter top filled with treats that will make any dog well-behaved (at least for the second they get the treat) – no guarantees on long term behavior!

Gift Giving for Spouses – Day 9 – The Good Gifts

Gift Giving for Spouses – Day 9 – The Good Gifts

This is challenging (not for me, my gift list is always available and up-to-date), but for my significant other, who is less inclined to have a wish list, (truth be told, he doesn’t ask for a lot and would just as soon buy it himself) and always says nothing when asked what he wants, Sigh. Kind of a holiday killjoy? No, think of it as a puzzle or a challenge. Sure, you can go with Smart wool socks or a good book, but what would really surprise this difficult to decode gift recipient?

For mine, athletic wear is always a sure bet, and he runs (and walks the dog) in all kinds of weather so I am getting these Armour® Fleece
Storm Pants. We love the jacket I reviewed in this fabric from Under Armour.

What else? A black smithing class, really.

A dinner with…me, I know, how nice am I? My pick is Justine’s Table – great food, lovely atmosphere and close to home so we can zip back and drive the kiddos home from a friend’s house.

Anything from the New York Giants (yes, my husband is a Giants fan and we live in the Boston area). It’s all good, though, my (somewhat fervent) Patriots fan family have taken to buying Giants paraphernalia for him and he, in turn, buys Boston sports team items for them. Détente achieved.

I wouldn’t mind having well, new boots, a new sweater (cashmere, check Garnet Hill, Zappos and Wanelo, I just may have gift lists at all of these sites. I’d l ike a new blender, too, but not for the faint of heart to give appliance, just ask my Dad.

Go check out Pragmatic Mom for more ideas!

  • Update: I just bought the storm pants at Under Armour in the Natick Mall (yes, I am brave to tackle the mall), and the customer service was exceptional. Not only did the sales staff have to take apart the mannequin for the display item I wanted, but checked repeatedly in other places for items and even followed up with a phone call to me later that day. The item is not to be found in their stores but the dedicated salesman gave me more information on how I could find it online. So nice! Top grades to the sales team at Under Armour Natick!

12 Days of Shopping – Arts and Crafts on Day 2

Wine decoration tag from the container store from capability momcapability mom mod podge arts and crafts 12 days of shopping

I love craft projects (dioramas, hot glue and glitter), so the holidays are fun and somewhat messy around here. All to the good!  And my new craft addiction is to fold over elastic. I like the colors, I like making hair ties and headbands and luckily, other people like them, too, or I would have a ton of FOE in my house. I am going to use them as ribbon ties for presents, too – maybe I did overbuy…

So, this year in addition to construction paper chains, strings of popcorn, chocolate kiss trees and mod podge-ing some cute containers for baked goods (sugar cookies and vanilla bread are our go-to recipes), we also upping the cute factor on presents we give. Why? Because it’s fun to do, a great way to express yourself and makes the gift even more special.

Not feeling the crafty love? The Container Store has a fantastic wrapping center with pre-made tags and bows and even a how-to guide for Gorgeous Gift Presentation.

Here is my post from last year – Mod Podge Gifts and here is Pragmatic Mom’s great Clove fruit Tutorial. Check out Mod Podge Rocks blog for a great ornament tutorial.

Shopping for the Holidays with blogger extraordinaire, Pragmatic Mom

Last year, Pragmatic Mom and I shared a wildly popular (said modestly, eyes downcast) series of 12 posts for the 12 Days of – not Christmas – but Shopping. This year we are a little more on top of things and are starting earlier.  We covered those challenging people to buy for (Gifts for Father-in-law was by far the most searched) including in-laws, tutors, and teachers. How can you be your best centered self (not self-centered self) if you are distracted and driving around searching for gifts? We’ve got you covered. This was such fun and worked so well last year that we are formatting it the same way this year. We’ll be joint posting for the twelve days and Pragmatic Mom will do half of each post, and I’ll do the other. We even have a giveaway thrown in the mix this year, too, from Botanical Paperworks – Check out their Green Gifts Guide and enter to win Eco Coil Calendar and Pop Garden Pocket Notebooks at Pragmatic Mom on December 4th and Poppy Notebook Pad and Mittens Card Set here on December 5th!
