Smile, a Graphic Novel by Raina Telgemeir from Scholastic.com is a great book for middle school aged kids in general – special bonus if braces are in their future. Although it has been some years since I was in middle school (so long ago that it was called junior high), I remember it well. The author, Raina Telgemeier, is extraordinarily talented and perceptive, and captures perfectly this time of life in a fun and sweet novel. Do you have a budding graphic novelist in your house? Check out this cool site from Smile and Scholastic that lets them make a graphic novel.
Sometimes Pragmatic Mom and I work together on something but we never even talked about this – just found it at the same time! Check out her post about Smile and some great tie-in book group activities here.
That’s so funny. I posted on it today too! We are doing a 4th grade book club on it before school ends.
That is a great link! I think I, I mean my kids, will have fun it it! I am starting a list for when my kids get a little older and adding this pick to it.
